HARRY'S STORY . . .

This is a true story.

This is a story about hope and healing and the rewards that come to those who are willing to open themselves to the power of love.

In the same year Rescue Animal Products (RAP) was to begin business, Harry was rescued. He'd been the victim of severe neglect, and his rescuers had to make the heart wrenching decision as to whether he could be saved or should be mercifully put down.

The veterinarian who examined Harry said that there was very little chance Harry could even survive, much less ever be a normal and adoptable dog. At this point, Harry looked nothing like his picture above—at the young age of only 16 months he was just 90 pounds of lifeless bones and sores. He suffered from mange, parasites, and staph infections, and his kidneys and liver were about to shut down. It seemed it wouldn't be long before his big heart stopped beating.

Too weak and toxic to respond to normal veterinary therapy, but able to lap water and soup, Harry was taken home by a Rescue volunteer and placed on numerous vitamins, minerals, and herbs. Ultimately, the healing had to come from within. Harry's "Rescue Mom" gave him daily herbal shampoos and clean bedding, and slathered his face, ears and paws with healing salves. His former diet of stale generic food was replaced with highly digestible human foods like eggs, yogurt, meat, oatmeal, rice, carrots, and leafy greens.

When Harry was found, his joints bulged with swollen tenderness and the ligaments were like worthless rubber bands. After a few weeks of tender loving care however, he was actually running and trying to play with the other puppies. By this time, another change was taking place as well. Once his sores began to heal, and as an external reflection of the healing taking place inside his body, Harry was once again covered by a thick luxuriant coating of "peach fuzz," and, even more amazingly, this hair had the true colors of beautiful mahogany, pure black, and snow white. He was becoming a real Saint! In less than two months, Harry's dramatic and miraculous healing was complete.

Today, Harry is lucky to have a new home where he can run along the ocean beach every morning. He sleeps in a pile every night with another adopted orphan. The photograph in our logo was taken just before he left to join his new family. He is as healthy as any young dog in the world. No dog is happier or more grateful to be alive than a dog that's been brought back from the hopelessness of a neglectful home. And no dog is happier than Harry.

Rescuing animals is not just about intervention with appropriate medicine, herbs, megavitamins, or even good food. Rescuing animals is really about one thing—LOVE. Love is being up all night applying dressings, lifting a hurting animal into the bathtub, and doting in the kitchen like a chef. In Harry's case, love meant not taking "no" for an answer.

Harry's story has affected many people and changed their lives all the way along (the vet is still scratching his head!). At RAP we've adopted Harry as our mascot forever. We'll never forget his courage and character. His story gives us faith and hope.

Rescuing animals brings life and love to a planet that needs it so much. Animals teach us how to love. And what is more important than that?
